In just 4 weeks the Ride For Dad will be a memory. That is appropriate because this year the Ride is dedicated to the memory of Harry Tibbett. Harry ,a great supporter and fundraiser for the annual event, will be remembered by those who recall his tragic death on Horseshoe Valley Rd. So many attended his funeral that many had to remain in the parking lot as every space was filled inside.
100 special memorial Tshirts will be available on friday and saturday and all proceeds will go to the ride for dad. This special edition is one time only and will bear his favourite expression. "Ride it like you stole it"

In February I posted the need we have to raise funds for the ride research programme. At that time I told you that my goal was to raise $1,200. Well I think I have done it.Certainly it will be exceeded next week. Why is this important? This year we had close to $90,000 for research grants. Five researchers sent in applications for funding and three were granted. The total requested exceeded our funds available but we are asking another group to allot some funds to us so that we can complete the funding.
Just think,if each of us set a goal and then tried to exceed it by just 10% we would have funded it easily.
You are important to the ride, please do your best to raise funds and help those who truly need this research.

"OPPA continues it's support of Huronia Motorcycle Ride for Dad"

Ontario Provincial Police Association (OPPA) president Jim Christie and association staff members recently presented a cheque in support of the Huronia Motorcycle Ride for Dad to Colin Wackett, far right.
It marks the ninth consecutive year the OPPA has been a major sponsor of the prostate-cancer fundraiser.
“Many of our members have been affected by prostate cancer and we know how hard a diagnosis can be for them and their families,” Christie said while making the presentation. “Huronia Ride for Dad has been instrumental in funding research into this disease and continues to make a difference in the lives of the patients and their families.”
The Huronia Motorcycle Ride for Dad has funded nine research projects to date. In addition, the ride funds public-awareness programs stressing the need for men to have regular physical examinations including prostate examinations.
February 1st 2013
As we enter the month of February we should begin the process of raising donations to the cause. This year our ride will be donating $84,000 to a research project for prostate cancer. In addition we will start a project that will see radio and print advertising that will focus on awareness, this will be held during the month of February/March.
The funds for these projects comes directly from you the rider and from others who just go out and raise money because they believe in our goal of helping others. For a while I thought I was too busy as an organizer and did not have the time to raise funds. Then one day it hit me, as I am shopping and making my rounds to people I know I will simply explain what we do and ask for support. I was surprised by how many asked how much I wanted. Bottom line, I now need $1,200 to make the Gold level of the Captains Club. That is my target for this year. You will see if I make it, but even if I don't I will still raise a significant amount to help us along.
Have you set a target for this year? $100 in donations gets you the ride for free. $200 could get you and a passenger the ride registration for free and a chance to win one of three Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada gift cards valued at up to $5,000! Time to get going and make this our best for the 9th year of our Ride. Thousands of men are counting on you. Colin Wackett - Chair - Huronia (Barrie/Orillia) Motorcycle Ride For Dad
